My Journey

My journey began over 23 years ago when my oldest son, who was about 4yrs old, began displaying signs of ADHD, anxiety, stomach aches, and more. We visited doctors and I suggested that food additives, artificial colors, and sugar were an issue. At that time alternative information was hard to come by.  Doctors insisted that he would require medication and argued that food allergies or any foods, in general, were not a cause for his symptoms.  I instinctively knew better.  I couldn’t read enough on the subject of healing with foods and nutrients and cutting out offending foods.

It was a long road with many bumps, unintentional blunders, and me, ignoring doctor’s “orders”. Along the way, I had many doctors basically accuse me of being an unfit mother for not wanting to feed my son dairy or wheat (or medication) which, I knew were causing him severe discomfort.  Not to mention that all the reading I was doing, (in books…there was no internet back then!) stated that food allergies and food sensitivities greatly contributed to ADHD symptoms, stomach issues, and other mental health issues.

Eventually, many years later, it was confirmed that my son had lactose intolerance and celiac disease. Just as I had suspected; food was contributing to his health issues, both mentally and physically.  Both of my sons were given more antibiotics than I care to remember when they were young for various issues. I now know that their diet and overuse of antibiotics caused leaky gut, which leads to disease and illness and breakdown of the immune system.  My youngest son also has food allergies and sensitivities and as a result, over the years, I have learned the importance of having an allergy free kitchen. Most of the meals I make are dairy, gluten, soy and often egg free (due to my own egg allergy).

Now, many years later, I have not only learned a great deal about how food impacts every aspect of our health, but I took the next step and became a Certified Health Coach, and Holistic Health Practitioner I approach wellness holistically through food and other therapies. Every system within our bodies communicates with other systems, so when you treat one area, it inevitably affects another.  And the same goes for illness, when one system fails, possibly another will fail and so on, if the underlying cause is not treated effectively.

Healing takes place when care is given in natural ways.  The body is meant to heal itself with the aid of nature.  I encourage you to peruse the pages on my website and become an informed consumer.  Be an advocate for your own health and wellness.
